So my name is Owen and the short guy is my partner Chris :). We currently live in Washington D.C with our pug (momo) and 2 cats (tuxedo and princess). Im currently in grad school working on my masters in Interior Architecture and Chris is a HR professional.
Found your blog after you commented on mine, good luck to you guys! That dog is too cute.
ReplyDeleteWhen do they expect to break ground?
Awesome, we definitely like reading about other experiences so please follow us too. We got him at 8 weeks old and I still can't resist smothering him with kisses 2 years later. He's a major reason why we decided to upgrade to a bigger space. We will probably get another once we move in.
ReplyDeleteAt the moment they are telling us sometime in April but we still don't have a pre construction meeting date scheduled yet.
It goes pretty fast once they start and at least you shouldn't have any weather issues to contend with! I will definitely follow your progress. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteHey there we're in Beechtree too! Welcome to the neighborhood :0) We've been there since September 2012 and love it. Like literally not one complaint about the community. I haven't blogged in forever but I love seeing the progress of others. Happy building!!
ReplyDeleteHi Asia,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I think it's so cool to run into someone from the neighborhood. I cant say we knew a lot about the area before but as we learn more it makes us feel so good about buying. Why did you decide to buy at Beechtree? Please follow us and keep in touch.
Owen, congrats to you and your beautiful family on your new home! I love finding blogs such as yours, as I find them very insightful on the whole process of a new construction home. Thank you for sharing your experiences. My family and I are building a home with NV Homes' sister company, Ryan Homes. I wish you guys the best of luck and I look forward to reading about your progress.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne,
ReplyDeleteThank you and congrats on your new home. Even though we aren't first time home buyers, new construction is such a tricky thing to navigate. We definitely don't have all the answers but hopefully it helps anyone reading. At the same time were learning tons from all the great feedback. Please stay in touch and maybe we'll be reading your blog soon? :)
Haha! As I told your fellow blogger, LaRon, I am certainly not brave or creative enough to create a blog! :) But, I love reading yours and his and following your progress. I feel like I'm part of it and I'm rooting you guys on the whole process! LOL You are absolutely right, buying a new construction is an experience like no other, which is why I am grateful for your blog. It helps me relieve some of my own stresses!
DeleteMan, I'm glad to hear that even someone getting their degree in architecture finds the process daunting! We're just starting out, and there's so much to do within the first thirty days it can feel overwhelming, especially thinking about such tiny details about outlets, etc.
ReplyDeleteHi Owen,
ReplyDeleteLove your blog. I am also building and blogging and own a pug named Macie. I am building a Ryan Home in Elkridge, Maryland.
Thank you and congrats on your new home. :) I see you guys are making the leap into the suburbs just like we did. As much as I love being in the city, were looking forward to having a little more calm and space. We will make sure to follow your progress and you should totally post some pics of Macie.
DeleteHello my name is Rhonda. I see we're going to be neighbors. I'm assuming your home is on Tibberton. I moved here in March of this year and love my home. Let me know when you move in and I'll stop by and formally introduce myself.
ReplyDeleteHi Rhonda,
DeleteThanks so much for reaching out. We can't wait to move and to meet all our neighbors. We are on Tibberton towards the middle of the block. I'm happy to hear your loving your home. Please follow our progress, we would appreciate any feedback.
You guys are too cute. It was fun reading your blog. Nice to see other GLBT sharing their experience.

Hi Owen, you puppy is so adorable! And those cats! They have my heart. I would love to introduce our schnauzer to a cat; but I don't think he will go for it. lol I might try it anyway.
ReplyDeleteWe love our pets, they really are our kids. We had the cats first and then got momo. It wasn't easy at first but they definitely like each other now.
