Kitchen Cabinets!

I have good news to report on the kitchen sink. Our SR heard our pleas and found a way to get us the sink. Its better late then never and we really appreciate Jay keeping us happy. This sink will be able to accommodate large pans which I find more important than a dual sink bowl. We were charged $350 for the change which I'm not particularly happy about. The sink that is included with the house is actually slightly more expensive. So we are paying more for a downgrade which is kinda bonkers. So I can only justify the change because I know functionally this will work out better for us in the kitchen. The sink measures 32x18x9.

This past Sunday we took a trip to the house and we were surprised to see the Kitchen cabinets installed. They look awesome and Im so glad we took the hit and upgraded the cabinets. We also have hand rails, casement trim around the windows, doors and vanities in the bathroom. Im not sure if I love the bathroom vanities, I really don't like the hardware. If I knew they were going to use the small knobs then I would have requested to have them left off so I can purchase my own hardware.

  1. It looks great!! I I'm surprised they used the small knobs on the Lausanne cabinets too. I thought they usually used the longer bar style handles with those cabinets. Maybe your PM will change them if you let him know you don't like them.

    1. I was expecting the bar style hardware so the knobs were a surprise. I will see what my PM has to say about it

    3. Its totally annoying for such a simple change. I can't believe they have the audacity to charge you for leaving them off too. Try talking to your PM, he might be able to help you out. In my case I realized too late to make that request and found them already installed. At the end of the day I really did want the bars but recently I found some modern knobs to replace them. So perhaps you may find something else also and save yourself $500.

    4. Thanks. I do plan on talking to my PM and asking for the change on an informal basis. I only got the Lausanne cabinets because I was expecting bar pulls. Otherwise with knobs, I would've done Scottsdale. Lausanne with the regular knobs kinda cheapens the look I think.

Anyway, I should've mentioned earlier that I really like your blog and the selections you two have made. I also requested the same staircase railing as yours and wasn't sure if I made the right decision--but I know I did after looking at yours post-stain. It looks great. :) They had the metal balusters at the model for an additional 2K.--no thanks.

    5. Thanks for reading the blog, its been so much fun just connecting, sharing ideas and sympathizing with everyone going through the same thing.

Exactly my thoughts with the Lausanne cabinets. You completely lose the cool simple modern aesthetic with those round little knobs.

We first saw the staircase at the model in Greenbelt and it was definitely on our must have list. We didn't care for the metal balusters either, I especially like how the white balusters contrast with the dark floors.

  3. Awesome news on getting the sink you guys wanted! That is always good. Even if it's considered a "downgrade" as long as you are happy right? :-)

    1. Not exactly what I would have chosen, but this is what we signed up for. For now it's good enough.

  4. That's great news about the sink!! I'd be aggravated about the charge, too, but in the long run if it works better for you guys, then the charge is worth it. I'm not jazzed about the standard sink either, but I think I'm going to live with it for a while before making up my mind if it's worth it to switch out, since we're not huge cooks anyway.

  5. I remember liking the kitchen sink layout in your condo, so I'm sure you'll like it

  6. Absolute YES to that sink. Just perfect. Forget the price.. it will be totally worth it in the end. I literally HATE the split sink. I do not use the one side and like you said, it's a pain to put skillets and pots in because they really don't fit. That's one of my biggest pet peeves. So I'm super excited for you to have the switch. And the framing on your island is to die for. I just love your cabinets. Our cabinets are the same as yours except the drawers above/below the cabinets do not have the framing along the edges which is something I just love. I wish we had the option of your cabinet/drawer combo! It's a much more polished look. And all those windows?! Gah, I'm dying. Seriously, your home is going to be amazing!

    1. LOL! That sink is truly horrible, my mom whose the ultimate cook also had the same complaint. Hopefully if enough people complain they'll get the message and start offering much better options. We're trying to stay positive and focusing on the thing we really love about the house like the kitchen cabinets. Can't wait to see what you've done to your place since moving in.

    2. Heeeeey, we have that sink! HAHAHA Just kidding! If you are a cook of any kind, I would agree! It's tough to get more than one pot in there at a time.

    5. I got that sink too. You're getting a "good" deal (ha!). I got charged $500.

    6. Its so worth the extra expense after seeing it installed. Its my agenda now to call out how horrible the standard sink is so that NVHomes will start offering much better options. I would have loved to see a farm style sink offered.

    8. hahaha, well lets just strive for more sink options

  7. Now that I think about it, doubt they would offer the single sink as a standard option. My friend bought a home from them 2 years ago and had to pay this fee for a single bowel sink. I bet this is a steady cash cow.

    1. Im not sure about that, there was probably a time when folks thought this was a nice sink and builders like to stick to formulas of what they think people desire. The problem is that it usually takes them a few years to catch up to the latest trends. The trend in interior design now is too install oversized sinks but they just haven't realized it yet. Even though this single bowl sink will do for now, if I were designing this kitchen I would have done an even larger sink.
