Selection Photos!

Stonemark Experience:

Our first appointment occurred at Stonemark's Crofton MD location. This showroom is new and fairly large. I can't say the appointment went very well, the gentleman we worked with was absolutely no help. He sat at his computer as we looked through all the selections and offered no input. I didn't need the help because of my experience with interior materials but I still expect a sales person to try to be helpful and to have knowledge about the materials their selling.  What if we had no clue about all these options? We asked about possibly switching some of tiles and basically told us it couldn't be done to make his job easier. He didn't even bother to show us the different grout option and made the selections himself. If you are sent to this location, we hear that the "woman" is a much better, so request her instead.

After complaining to our sales rep he made an appointment for us at the mount airy location. It was a bit far and a older/smaller location. We worked with Connor who we can't stop singing praise about. He walked us through all the selections and went out of his way to accomendate all of our request. He also provided insightful advice which was valuable. We've also made a number of changes post our appointment and he's been incredibly patient.

Selections:

So the house comes with standard 3" solid oak hardwood flooring In a honey color. There are a number of Level B option in 4" in oak or maple being offered.  Level C and D are 5" wide and are Handscraped. Engineered flooring is also available for the first floor.

Hardwood Flooring, Kitchen Cabinet and Countertop Selections:

Level C - Handscraped 5" wide Oak - Nantucket

Level C - Handscraped 5" wide oak - "Brown Bear"

Our selection : Level D - Handscraped 5" wide Hickory - River House
This was our selection for the hardwood flooring. We choose this because it wasn't too dark and we liked the Handscraped look of the hickory. Hickory is also harder then oak which is great for homes with pets.

As we mentioned in an earlier post about our cabinet change, we went from a Cherry Java Lausanne kitchen cabinet/cloud white Quartz (pictured above) to a Linen White New Haven cabinet/ Luna Pearl Granite (pictured below)

Master Bathroom Tile and Cabinet Selections:
I'm really picky when it comes to bathroom tile, the home comes with level B as standard.
Here are a few combinations we considered:

This is a level c tile: a great value for the look

This is a level D: We were really close to getting this one because it had a certain type of sophistication due to it simplicity. I didn't think it should be a level D tile though.

Another level D tile:

Our Selection:
Lausanne Espresso Cabinets, Burlywood Granite, Composition Gesso 12x24 white porcelain shower surround, Ice white mosaic accent ( we switched out the dark tile in the photo for Santino Grigio flooring)
The tile here is a level D.

Santino Grigio 12x24 porcelain (I'm a big fan of gray toned limestone and this porcelain was a nice replica. I also specified a gray grout to match so it doesn't appear choppy like the photo below with the white grout.)

Front Entry, Garage Entry and first floor  bathroom:
We choose a 12x24 Fabrique Gris linen Porcelain floor tile. The tile in the garage entry flows into the bathroom for consistency. The tub surround was done in a 6x6 included white tile.

Powder Room, 3rd Floor Bathroom (Lausanne Espresso Cabinet, 6x6 white tile) and Laundry Room Selection:

We choose 12x24 Fabrique Blanc Linen Porcelain tile floor in these room

Carpeting: We choose standard "White Fox" carpeting and padding through. We have plans to update the flooring later

  2. I love the hardwood choices -- that's kind of what we're hoping to do, too -- light enough to show the lovely grain, but dark in overall tone. Beautiful! And that's a good tip about the hickory, too, since we're bad about clipping our dog's nails.

I'm glad RH worked with you when they heard about your experience in the first showroom. That's disappointing.

    1. We love the look of really dark floors but they show everything including Momo's fur which sheds year round. I know some of the flooring options are different at ryan, but if they have bamboo that has a high hardness level also. I can't complain our sales rep have been awesome with our gazillion questions and request.

  3. Love your selections. I picked brown bear for our Nv home but never saw a full sample of Nantucket. Just one small strip which didn't help any. What is your take on the color? In your photo it has sort of a green cast. Online it appears a medium brown with a slight green/grey undertone. It's so hard to tell!!

    1. I love Brown Bear! :P As far as Nantucket its really hard to tell the colors from the photos online. In person its reads very yellow with contrasting dark brown within the grain. I thought nantucket was an interesting hardwood but it wasn't my favorite. We went back and forth on Brown Bear and River House. We ultimately went with River House for a couple of reasons. Even though I like super dark hardwood floors like Brown Bear it wasn't the right fit. After installing dark hardwoods a few years ago in our condo we learned that they show every strand of dog hair and which require constant cleaning. Totally not a big deal in a small condo, but it would be a total nightmare in a larger house. I also enjoy being able to see the grain come through in River House. The second reason is also pet related. Like I mention in the post, hickory is a harder then oak and can take a better beating from little dog paws.

  4. Thanks so much for your reply and description of Nantucket. I would not have liked it per your description. I think you made a wise choice selecting River House. I like that it's hickory and that's it's a medium tone. I would have rather had River House if only it wasn't as variegated. I was scared it would be a little too rustic looking for my decor but now I'm totally second guessing myself! LOL! I know all the drawbacks with dark wood plus we have a boxer!! Ugh! It's so hard!!!! Be thankful you had a good design center. Ours had horrible choices for level D porcelain... Most of the porcelain flooring was paired with ceramic wall tile. I couldn't believe it! Can't wait to see your home finished! It sounds like ours is at about the same stage as yours!

    1. oh don't second guess yourself you made a beautiful choice. They used Brown Bear in our model home and it looks awesome. I was totally frustrated with the design center and the pre made tile packages, they we're nice enough to let us pick and choose the tile I wanted after several trips. What type of NVHome are you building?

    2. Thanks! That makes me feel better about the brown bear. Glad to hear the design center worked with you. I really love that santino tile you picked. We are building a Remington Place II in PA.
